AT-TAWWASUL AND IT’S TYPES By: Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzan

Question:
The questioner asks O shaykh regarding at-tawassul ( a means of seeking nearness to Allaah with certain actions), it’s types and that is with the supplication of the righteous.
Answer:
At-tawassul is of two types; the type that is legislated (allowed) and the type that is forbidden.
The tawassul which is legislated is
  • tawassul to Allaah by (using) His Names and Qualities or
  • tawassul by way of righteous actions or
  • tawassul in requesting supplication from a living person (who) is present, that he supplicates for you regarding your affairs; All this is permissible.
The tawassul which is forbidden is
  • the tawassul done by the honor the creation, or by his right or by his personality or his uprightness.
This is the tawaasul which is forbidden. If the one who does so directs anything from worship to the one the tawaasul is made towards, then this is major shirk, just as that which the people of jaahiliyah were upon ( Allaah says) “they worship other than Allaah things that will not harm nor benefit them, they say these are our intercessors with Allaah” (10:18) (also) Just as most of the grave worshippers are upon; those who seek nearness (to Allaah) by way of the deceased with different forms of worship and they say “these will intercede for us with Allaah” and this is major shirk!

A total disgrace in the name of Islamic dawah: – A dress-up fashion show for ladies starring Yusuf Estes

A total disgrace in the name of Islamic dawah: – A dress-up fashion show for ladies starring Yusuf Estes
- Jokes with lies (as usual), claiming that Turkish people pray without wudhoo’.
- Remember that he collects the Muslims’ zakaat money for his TV station and even quotes Egyptian fatwaas that we MUST support him, while THIS kind of shameless clownery goes on.
- When will his defenders (Thahabi, Assim Hakeem, etc.) stop speaking against Ahlus-Sunnah and say something about this mess?
- If he was a Sunni, these kinds of incidents would be enough for us to turn away from him. What about when he continues to teach Jahmiyyah kufr, promote the Shiite, reject hudood, claim that Allah is totally intolerant, etc.?
Help raise awareness about this man’s reality:

Establishing the 'Eid Prayer Early

 From Sunan Abee Daawood:

Chapter 247 - The Time for Coming out for the 'Eid PrayerHadeeth 1135:

'Abdullaah bin Busr, the Companion of the Prophet sAllaahu'alaihiwasallam went out with the people on the day of 'Eid-ul-Fitr or Adhaa, and rebuked the delay of the Imaam, and said "Indeed we would have completed the prayer by now, and that was at the time of tasbeeh*"

[Saheeh - Sh al-Albaanee]
* at-tasbeeh - the time at which salaat-ud-Duhaa would be prayed (as-Suyootee - quoted by Husain al-'Awaayishah in al-Mawsoo.at-ul-Fiqhiyyah)

Seeking Forgiveness Compiled & Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications
1 – Knowing that Allaah is the One Who forgives
From Ibn Abbas -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said: that Allaah Azza wa Jal said:

من علم أني ذو قدرة على مغفرة الذنوب غفرت له و لا أبالي ما لم يشرك بي شيئا

‘Whoever knows that I have the capability to forgive sins, then I will forgive him and not care, as long as he did not associate anything with Me.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 4330]
2 – Hundred times a Day
From al Aghra -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

يا أيها الناس ! توبوا إلى الله واستغفروه فإني أتوب إلى الله وأستغفره في كل يوم مائة مرة

‘O you people repent to Allaah and seek His forgiveness, since indeed I repent to Allaah and I seek His forgiveness a hundred times every day.’ [Collected by Ahmad & Albaani declared it to have a saheeh Isnad in Saheehah no. 1452]
3 – Seeking Forgiveness for Parents
Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيۡتِيَ مُؤۡمِنٗا وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِۖ

- My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. - [Nuh: 28]
Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرٗا ٢٤

- and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.’ - [al-Isra: 24]
From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu – who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

إن الرجل لترفع درجته في الجنة فيقول : أنى ( لي ) هذا ؟ فيقال : باستغفار ولدك لك

‘Indeed Allaah raises the grade of a righteous slave of His in Paradise so much that the slave of Allaah says: ‘O My Lord! From where is all this for me? He will say: ‘By your son seeking forgiveness for you.’ [Collected by Ibn Majah, Ahmad, Ibn Abi Shaybah in ‘al-Mussanaf’, Asbahani in ‘Targheeb’, Baghawi in ‘Sharh as-Sunnah’, and by ad-Diyaa & Albaani declared its Isnad as hasan in Saheehah no.1598]
Abul Hasan as-Sindi -Rahimullaah- (d. 1138 A.H.) said in his explanation of ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’:
‘Therefore it is necessary for the son to seek forgiveness for his parents.’ [From ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’ No. 3660]
Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan was asked:
‘My mother seeks forgiveness and makes Tasbeeh a hundred times a day for her parents daily, what is the ruling of seeking forgiveness for parents after they have passed away?
The Shaykh answered:
‘This is a good thing, seeking forgiveness for parents and the Muslims, a person seeks forgiveness for himself, his parents and the Muslims, this is a matter which is legislated.

- My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer- like Nuh – alayhi as-Salaam- said.

- Seek forgiveness for your sins and the believing men and women. – Like Allaah said to our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.
Seeking forgiveness for a person, his parents, his relatives, and his Muslim brothers, the living and the dead, is a matter which is needed, and a person should do this a lot.’ [Taken from:http://www.alfawzan.af.org.sa/node/13605%5D
4 – Seeking Forgiveness for the Believers
From Ubadah bin as-Samitt -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

من استغفر للمؤمنين و للمؤمنات كتب الله له بكل مؤمن و مؤمنة حسنة

‘Whoever sought forgiveness for believing men and believing women, Allaah writes a good deed for him for every believing man and woman.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 6026]

Visiting Family and Friends on Eid – Shaykh Muhammad bin Hadi al-Madkhali

This [questioner] from Algeria asks: What is the ruling on specifying the day of Eid for visiting relatives and friends?
Shaykh Muhammad bin Hādī al-Madkhalī:
That is a good action and the relatives are most deserving of maintaining ties, because they are kinsfolk, they are more entitled than others [to this].
So start with them and then visit [the] others after that. That is what is required, that a person begins with his kinsfolk because they have a greater right upon him than others. He should treat them with kindness and if he has time [he can] visit his brothers.
If he achieves [all] that then all praise be to Allah – and if he does not achieve that, then it is not from the Sunnah to do that [anyway]. It is sufficient to meet the people at the Musalla – all praise and thanks be to Allah – and to meet them at the mosques at the five [daily] prayers, that can be achieved and is enough – and all praise and thanks be to Allah.
It is not a condition to visit [friends] at home. But this has become a custom of the people, and in this case the custom is not contradictory to the legislation, they do not claim that it is an act of worship and the reason for that is that it is a day of happiness and joy, so there is no problem in all that. And Allah knows best.
