Lessons of Creed Acquired From The Hajj – By ‘AbdurRazzaq bin ‘Abdul-Muhsin al-Badr by AbdurRahman.org

Hadeeth Seven from Forty Hadeeths of An-Nawawee+benefits+statements of the Salaf

On the authority of Abu Ruqayya Tameem ibn Aus ad-Daaree (radi Allaahu anhu) that the Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
'The Deen (religion) is naseehah (advice/sincerity)'. We said 'To whom?' He said 'To Allah and His Book, and His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.' [Related by Muslim no 55]

Biography of the narrator:

The illustrious companion, Tameem bin Aws Ad-Daaree- Allah is pleased with him-, he had a daughter called Ruqayyah. He embraced Islam year 9, he used to pray the night a lot and he was-in a weak narration by Ibn Maajah- the first to kindle a lantern in the Masjid. It is said that it was sketched on his grave that he died year 40. He has one hadeeth in Sahih Muslim.

Benefits extracted from this hadeeth:

1-The importance of the advice at these occasions and how the Prophet peace is upon him counted it to be from the religion.

2-The good teaching of the Prophet peace is upon him when he mentioned the matter generally then mentioned it in details.

3-The vigilance of the companions in seeking knowledge and how they would not leave a vital matter passing by them without inquiring about its understanding.

4-The importance of starting with the foremost then the foremost.

5-The obligation of advising the Imams of Muslims in the legislated manner.

6-The indication that the Muslim society must have an Imam. And this Imaamah could be general or specific.

Statements of the Salaf related to this hadeeth:

1-Al-Hassan Al-Basree rahimahul-llah said: Verily, you will not reach the true advice for your brother until you command him with what you failed to do.

2-Al-Fudhayl bin 'iyaadh rahimahul-llah said: Those with us did not achieve what they have achieved by praying a lot and fasting a lot. Rather they did that by having generous souls, clean chests and giving advice to the Ummah.

3-Ibnul-Mubaarak rahimahul-llah was asked: which act is best? He said: giving advice for the sake of Allah.

4-Some of the Salaf said: he who admonishes his brother between them it is an advice. And he who admonishes him in front of people he has only rebuked him.

5-Al-Fudhayl bin 'iyaadh said rahimahul-llah: the believer advises and conceals and the transgressor reveals and mocks.

6-Abdul-Aziz bin Abee Rawwaad said: those who were before you, if the man saw from his brother something he would command him gently and he would be rewarded in his command and prohibition. And verily, some of those would breach his companion and as a result angers him and reveals him.

The advice to scholars and what to do if a speech about a scholar reaches you-Shaykh Ibnul-'Uthaimeen

The noble scholar Muhammad bin Saalih Al-'Uthaimeen rahimahul-llah (died 1421) said in his explanation of forty hadeeths of An-Nawawee, hadeeth number 7

"And the advice to scholars can be executed by:

1-Loving them, for that if you did not love a person you will not hold him as an example.

2-Aiding and helping them in clarifying the truth. So you spread their books through different kinds of Media that differ from time to time and form one place to another.

3-Defending their honor; you do not approve [keep quiet] them being backbited and their honor being violated by anyone . And if something blameworthy is attributed to a venerated scholar you must go through the following stages:

First stage: you verify what has been attributed to him. How many times things were attributed to a scholar while it is a lie. So you must verify, and if you verified that the speech is his move to the second stage.

Second stage: You ponder over the speech to see if it is blameworthy or not. Because a speech may appear- for first while- blameworthy but after pondering it becomes clear that it is a truth. So you must ponder and see if the speech is blameworthy or not.

Third Stage: If it became clear that the speech is not blameworthy, it is an obligation that you defend it and clarify that what the scholar said is the truth even if it opposed what people are upon and you must spread that.

Fourth Stage: If you see- in your estimation- that what has been confirmed to be the speech of a scholar is not the truth, it is an obligation to call this scholar and say- in a polite manner-: I heard such and such from you and I would like that you clarify the justification because you are more knowledgeable than me. So if he clarified to you, you have the right to discuss but in a polite manner and with respect according to his status and what befits him.

As for what some ignorant people do, who come a scholar who differ with them in opinion and address him in a coarse and harsh way saying to him: "what is this statement that you innovated? What is this evil? You do not fear Allah" And they may even wave their hands in his face. However, after pondering it becomes clear that the scholar conforms with the hadeeth and they are the opposers. And those people are- in most cases- let down by their self-amazement, and them thinking that they are Ahlus-Sunnah and that they are upon the way of the Salaf while they are the most far from the way of the Salaf. If the human was self-amazed-we seek refuge in Allah- he will see others like small ants.

So be aware.

4-The fourth way of advising the scholar, if you see a mistake from them do not say: "he knows better than me" then keep quiet. Rather, you should discuss in a polite manner because sometimes the ruling remains hidden from the human and a person who is lower than him in knowledge would alert him and he would heed the alert and that is from giving advice to scholars.

5-You guide them to the best when it comes to giving Da'wah to masses. So, if you see that this scholar loves spreading knowledge and he speaks everywhere he goes and you see that people find him heavy and say: "this made it heavy on us, anytime we sit he stands up and speaks" It is from the advice that you indicate to this scholar that he speaks only in what it is relevant to the condition. Do not say: "If I said that I will prevent him from spreading knowledge" Matter of fact, that is a preservation of knowledge because if people become bored they will resent the scholar and his speech. And this is why the Prophet peace is upon him used to make admonition to his companions short to avoid boredom even though his speech peace is upon him is loved by souls. And the human must be with people like the Shepherd; he chooses that which is most effective and most beneficial"

The difference between blindly following a scholar and seeking aid from his understanding

The 'Al-llaamah, the prince Muhammad bin Ismaa'eel As-San'aanee rahimahul-llah said in his treatise Irshaadun-Nuqaad elaa tayseeril-Ijtihaad, page 105

"And there is a difference between blindly following a scholar in everything that he says and seeking aid from his understanding; the first is adopting his statement without looking for a proof from Qur'aan or Sunnah. And seeking aid from his understanding- which is the second- is like the skillful guide on the path for the passer-by. So he [the scholar] is a guide to a proof, once he [passer-by] reached it [proof] he is sufficed from using other than it as a proof. And this is similar to he who uses the star to be guided to the Qiblah, if he saw the Qiblah no meaning is left to use the star"

‘When will I see you as a Haafidh?’

Shaykh Yasir Salamah, one of the leading Imams and recitors of Egypt. In his audio tape ‘When will I see you as a Haafidh?’he speaks of the true account of Muhammad, a brother who after attending a workshop on memorising Qur’an and utilising all the available mediums, went on to memorise the entire Qur’an within just 50 days (i.e 2 months).

“I declared a state of Jihad upon my soul and put death before my eyes. I made an intention to memorise the Noble Qur’aan. So I abandoned telephone calls and unnecessary visits, and I changed all the negative thoughts associated with hifdh (memorisation) to positive and practical ones e.g. When a thought came to me saying ‘I can’t do it!’ I’d say, ‘I can do it.’ If it said, ‘My memory is weak!’ I’d say ‘I take pleasure in having a great memory.’

I chose the masjid as the place of my hifdh as it preserves three:

1. The eyes

2. The ears

3. The tongue

I followed a specific dietary program consisting of eating dates, fruits and honey - and fasting helped me a great deal in that. I used to wake up before salaat al-Fajr by 2 and a half hours and I slept 2 hours after ‘Isha. I used to wake up for Tahajjud (the night prayer), prolonging my sujood wherein I would call upon Allaah ta’alaa to ease for me my affair. I would also seek forgiveness 100 times.

I began to memorise 5 pages and would recite them in the Sunnah prayers of Fajr. After salaat al-Fajr, I would begin the memorisation of 5 new pages and at the end, I would recite them in the 2 raka’ahs of salaat al-Duhaa, all the time thanking Allaah for easing the memorisation.

I would perfect the recitation of what I had memorised by listening to tapes of one of the recitors. I would read about the qiraa’ah in books or via the Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah (poem on the ahkam of tajweed).

After salaat al-Dhuhr, I would repeat everything that I had memorised previously beginning from the 1st Juz, until salaat al-’Asr. After the ‘Asr prayer, I would repeat the new portion of hifdh and the juz before. After the Maghrib prayer, I would prepare the recitation of 10 new pages and it was only after salaat al-’Isha that I’d review the Qur’aan with my teacher, may Allaah reward him well.

Before retiring to bed, I would listen to all that I memorised in the day from cassettes and I would be sitting for 6 continuous hours, without any boredom or feeling tired. In the 1st week, I would sit for 6 hours, memorising and revising. In the 2nd week, I would sit for 8 hours. In the 3rd week, it was 10 hours and in the 4th week, it was 12 hours. In the last 10 days, I was sitting for 14 hours memorising and revising.

The hardest times for me were when it came to sleeping and eating. I ardently wished that the period of sleep would end quickly so that I could start my hifdh of the Noble of Qur’aan. Everytime I began to read the Qur’aan and memorise, I felt such delight and enjoyment that I had never felt before. Du’a was an important factor for me before and after hifdh. I would memorise a page whilst sitting down and then repeat it whilst walking. My teacher played an important role in encouraging me, in revision, in correcting me and benefiting me in terms of Tajweed.

In the last week, on the night of 20th Ramadan, only 4 and a half juz remained until completion of hifdh. So I turned to Allaah to open up my way and ease it for me. I went on to memorise it in 6 days with the Help of Allaah.

Laylatul-Qadr came, the night of delight and happiness - it was like a wedding night to me. My completion of hifdh took place between Maghrib and ‘Isha in the masjid with the Imam and those in I’tikaaf. We began the khatma (reciting from beginning till end of the Book). In the end, during the du’aa, my heart opened up greatly and I began to weep like never before. It was the most beautiful hour of my life. Allaah had honoured me with the memorisation of His Book.

During the du’aa, I remembered a dream I had more than 10 years ago… I was a Mu’adhin of a mosque and after Fajr salaah, I sat remembering Allaah in the mosque. I felt sleepy so I took a nap in the middle of the mosque, and behold! I found myself amidst a gathering. A powerful ray of light descended from the sky down to the middle of the masjid. From that light came many angels and between them were 2 big Angels. One of them turned towards me and took me to the light. I entered along with the 2 angels. I then found myself on top of a large green tree - I began to climb it in the companionship of the 2 angels. We found angels standing by the door of the 1st heaven. They said to me ‘Where are you going?’ They opened up a book and said, ‘We don’t have your name with us, so climb onwards to the top.’ And likewise, all the time (through each heaven), they said the same thing to me.

Upon arriving at the 7th heaven, we reached the end of the tree. I found angels standing at the door and they said, ‘Are you Muhammad?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ They said, ‘Enter, for the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) wants you.’ I said to the 2 angels that were with me ‘Come in with me.’ They said, ‘We can’t enter. But we will wait for you.’ So I entered Jannah and behold, I saw therein what no eye has seen, no ear has heard and had never entered in the heart of Man. Angels were surrounding me and there was a door, on top of it was written (There is no God but Allaah and Muhammad is His Messenger. Al-Firdaws Paradise).

The Angels opened the door and I entered. Before me was the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) sitting at the top end and beside him were men, some that I recognised and some that I didn’t. In front of him were a very large group of men, women and children. They wore white clothes, and they were so many that they had a beginning but no end. All of them were reciting Qur’aan.

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) called me and I went up to him. He got up and made some space for me. I kissed him and he sat me down besides him. I asked him ‘Who are these people O Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘These are the people who have memorised the Book of Allaah `azza wa jall.’

Inshaa’Allaah ta’ala, the dream ended in truth. I never spoke to anyone about it until the night that I completed the memorisation of the Qur’aan.”

Brothers and sisters, don't forget each letter you say when reading the quran is a reward for you, and each reward is written for you as ten by Allah's generosity.

So in Bismillah arRahman arRaheem 19 letters which means 190 rewards! Just by doing the bismillah without even starting you gained 190 rewards InshAllah.

So how about doing ayas and repeating when you memorize?

It is truly an offer from Allah we cannot refuse. It is the chance of a lifetime truly because some of the scales on the day of Judgement may only need one reward for it to be heavier and open up the way by Allah's mercy to the Jannah!

We ask Allah the sincerity, the truthfulness, the acceptance, the good abode at the hereafter.

Ameen.

He who was given let him be thankful

Jaabir bin Abdil-llah-Allah is pleased with them- narrated from the messenger of Allah- peace is upon him- that he said:

"He who was given a gift and was able to reward for it let him do so, and he who was not able to reward for it let him praise [the giver] for that he who praised has been thankful, and he who concealed [the gift] has disbelieved [minor disbelief]. And he who beautifies himself with something he was not granted is like the wearer of the two garments of false testimony

At-Tirmithee no 2034 and Al-Albaanee graded it as sound in Sahihut-Targheeb no 968.

Al-Mubaarakfuree said commenting on this hadith in Tuhfatul-Ahwathee vol 1:

Al-Khattaabee said: There were people from the Arabs called Al-Ma'aareef who were known to be truthful, they had a specific dress. So the man would dress their clothes and give a false testimony and people would believe him when they see his dress. End

Uthaimeen: Finish Any Fasts You Have to Make Up for Ramadaan [Qadaa] Before Fasting the Six of Shawwaal

Shaikh Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, “The Sunnah is that a person fasts the six days of Shawwaal after finishing the make-up fasts [qadaa] of Ramadaan not before.  So if he had some fasts to make-up [due to having missed some in Ramadaan] but he fasted the six days of Shawwaal before the make-up fasts, he will not obtain their reward [i.e., the reward of the six of Shawwaal], because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever fasts Ramadaan …” and it is not correct to say about a person who has some fasts from Ramadaan still incumbent upon him that he has fasted Ramadaan, rather he has only fasted some of it.”

Explaining the hadith, “Du’aa is worship …” Shaikh al-Albaani, may Allaah have mercy on him said, “And there is no doubt that arrogantly refusing to worship and supplicate to Him, the Most High, necessitates His Anger against the one who does not call on Him … and some of the ignorant Sufis are ignorant or feign ignorance of these hadiths under the assumption that supplicating to Allaah is to show bad manners to Him, being affected in that by the Israa’ili narration, ‘His Knowledge of my condition suffices me from having to ask!’  So they were ignorant of the fact that a servant supplicating to his Lord is not in order to inform Him of his need, for He, “… knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden,” [Taa Haa 20:7] but rather that it is in order for him to manifest his servitude [to Allaah], his need of Him and his destitution [before Him].”

A benefit extracted from Tafsir As-Si'dee rahimahul-llah

Imam Abdur-Rahmaan bin Naasir As-Si'dee rahimahul-llah (died year 1376) commented on verse 3 in Al-Baqarah {Who believe in the unseen, establish the prayer and spend out from what We have provided for them} :

"At many times the exalted combined between the prayer and the Zakaah in the Qur'aan. This is because the prayer entails sincerity to the worshiped, and Zakaah and spending entail being good to his servants. So the rubric of happiness of the servant is in him being sincere to the worshiped and exerting effort to benefit the creation. Similarly the rubric of the unhappiness of the servant is having no sincerity nor being good" End

Al-Albaani Warning Against Native Arab Speakers Who Have Doctorates But Not Knowledge, What of Those Who Have Neither Doctorate Nor Arabic, Let Alone Knowledge? by The Albaani Blog

The Imaam said, “And in this regard, I advise the noble readers not to trust what is written these days in some of the magazines in circulation or widespread books containing Islamic research, especially those which are concerning the science of hadith, except if they are, firstly, written by the pen of someone whose [understanding of the]religion is trusted, and secondly that his knowledge and speciality in it [are trusted too]–for self-importance has conquered many of the writers of the present age, especially those who carry the title of, ‘Dr.,’ for they write about things which are not from their speciality, and about which they have no knowledge.
And indeed I know one of these individuals, he recently brought out a book before the people, most of it being about hadith and the seerah, thinking that in it he had relied upon authentic hadiths and narrations from the books of the Sunnah and Seerah! [Yet] then he [proceeds to] report narrations and hadiths in it which are unique in only being reported by the weak narrators, the abandoned narrators and those who have been accused of lying, like Waqidi and others. In fact, he reported the hadith, ‘We judge by what is apparent and leave what is hidden to Allaah,’ and he was resolute in attributing it to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم even though it has no basis [in being a narration] from him صلى الله عليه وسلم with this wording–so, readers, beware of people like these.
And Allaah’s Aid is sought.”

Baarakallaahu feekum wa jazaakumullaahu khair

Where will you be praying Taraweeh?

“Where will you be praying Taraweeh then?” A common question that is often repeated throughout this blessed month. However, many are oblivious to the fact there is in fact some‘fiqh’ behind this question as will soon be very evident….

“Muhammad bin Bahr said regarding the prohibition of searching and attending Masaajid due to the beauty of the recitation of the Imam (as quoted in Badaa’i al Fawaa’id 4/111):
'I saw Abu Abdullah (i.e. Imam Ahmad) in the Ramadhan and Fadl bin Ziyaad was leading him in Taraweeh. He had beautiful recitation and thus many mashaayikh and many locals gathered together until the mosque was full. Then Abu Abdullah climbed the staircase of the mosque and looked to the congregation and said:
“What is this! Why are you all leaving your [local] mosques and attend other mosques?”
Thereafter, [Fadl] lead them in prayer for a few more nights and then [Abu Abdullah] stopped him from leading the prayers due to disliking what he saw, i.e. the emptying of other mosques. Thus it is upon the neighbour of a mosque pray in his local mosque.’ [End of quote from Badaa'i]
And from Ibn al Qayyim’s research of the principle ‘sadd adh-dharaa’i’ in his book ‘i’laam al muwaqqi’een 2/160 he says:
‘The 54th point: The Prophet [saw] forbade the man to disregard the mosque which is closest to him and opt for another mosque as is in the narration of Baqiyyah on the authority of al Majaashi’ bin ‘Amr on the authority of ‘Ubaydullah on the authority of Naafi’ on the authority of Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet [saw] said:
One of you must pray in the mosque which is closest to him and should not disregard it for another mosque.”
And that is so in order to prevent the abandonment of the mosque which is closer and to prevent the Imam from feeling abandoned and lonely.
However, if the Imam was of the habit of not performing the prayer correctly, or he was accused of innovations or openly expressed evilness, then there is no harm for a person to pray in another mosque.” [end of quote from 'i'laam]
The hadeeth which was reported in at-Tabaraani’s al Awsat as well as al-Jaami’ as-Sagheer andKanz al ‘Ummaal 6/659 as well as Majma’ az-Zawaa’id of al Haythami who said:
“Its [i.e. chain of narration] is trustworthy except for the Shaykh of at-Tabaraani: Muhammad bin Ahmed bin Nasr al Marwazi as I have not seen anyone who wrote a biography of him.” [end of quote]. at-Tabaraani also reported it in al Mu’jam al Kabeer 12/370….
And on the authority of Nawfal bin Iyaas who said: “We used to pray in the time of ‘Umar ibn al Khattab in the mosque. A group of people would pray here and another group in another place and the people would choose to pray with the one with the best voice. Thus Umar said:“I see that they have taken the Qur’an as melodious tunes! By Allah if I am able, I will change this matter. Three nights did not pass by except that he commanded Ubayy to lead them in prayer.” This was reported by al Bukhaari in khalq af’aal al ‘ibaad p.51 and Ibn Sa’ad inat-Tabaqaat (5/51) and al Marwazi in Qiyaam al-Layl.
And I have only brought your attention to this matter because it is exemplifying our circumstances today on a wide scale. Furthermore, virtuous deeds are not attained by committing prohibited deeds. And likewise because it is a trial for the Imam of the congregation. And Allah knows best.”
[End of translation]
The hadeeth of the Prophet [saw] was also declared authentic by Al-Albani to be saheeh insaheeh al Jaami’ (2/5456) which a slightly different wording as well as in as-Saheehah (2200).
And Allah knows best.

Minor Sins Will be Pardoned if One Refrains from Major Sins

In the Name of Allaah, the Extremely Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Allaah said,
(If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall remit from you your (small) sins,)

Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer (rahimahullaah) said: Meaning, if you avoid the major evil deeds that you were prohibited We will forgive you the minor evil deeds and will admit you into Paradise.

This is why Allaah said,
(and admit you to a Noble Entrance (i.e. Paradise).)

There are several ahaadeeth on the subject of this honorable aayah. Imaam Ahmad recorded that Salman Al-Faarisee (radhiy’Allaahu `anhu) said,

"The Prophet (salla’Allaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to me, ‘Do you know what the day of Al-Jumu`ah is?’ I said, ‘It is the day during which Allah brought together the creation of your father (Aadam).’ He (salla’Allaahu `alayhi wasallam) said,

(I know what the day of Jumu`ah is. Anyone who takes a bath and cleans himself as much as he can and then proceeds for the Friday prayer and remains quiet until the Imaam finishes the prayer, all his sins in between the present and the next Friday will be forgiven, as long as major sins were avoided.)'"

Al-Bukhaaree recorded similar wording from Salmaan Al-Faarisee.

The Punishment for One who Intentionally Breaks His Fast!

Ibn Khuzaymah (1986) and Ibn Hibbaan (7491) narrated that Aboo Umaamah al-Baahili (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say:
Whilst I was sleeping, two men came to me and took hold of my upper arm, and brought me to a rugged mountain. They said: Climb up.’ I said: I cannot do it.’ They said: We will make it easy for you.’ So I climbed up until I was at the top of the mountain. There I heard loud voices. I said: What are these voices?’ They said: This is the screaming of the people of Hell.’ Then I was taken and I saw people suspended by their ankles, with the corners of their mouths torn and pouring with blood. I said: Who are these?’ They said: These are the people who broke their fast before it was time to do so.’
[Classed as Saheeh by al-Albaanee in Saheeh Mawaarid adh-Dham-aan, 1509].
al-Albaanee (may Allaah have mercy on him) commented: I say: This is the punishment of the one who fasted then deliberately broke his fast before the time for iftaar had come.So how about one who does not fast at all? We ask Allaah to keep us safe and sound in this world and in the Hereafter.
