Ruling on using "Emaan" as a name
بِسْمِ الله والحَمدُ للهِ والصَّلاةُ والسَّلامُ على رسولِ الله
Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-'Uthaimeen rahimahul-llah was asked about the ruling on using "Emaan" as a name. Below is his answer:
"What I see is the name Emaan carries a tazkiyah (commendation or praise) and it has been authenticated that the prophet peace is upon him has changed the name Barrah (mean obedient or truthful or doer of good) out of fearing tazkiyah. Abu Hurairah-Allah is pleased with narrated in Sahih Bukharee that "Zaynab(the prophet's wife) used to be called Barrah and it was said she was commending her self so the prophet peace is upon him named her Zaynab" Hadith no 6192. And in Sahih Muslim Abdul-llah bin 'Abbas-Allah is pleased with-narrated that "Juwairiyyah used to be called Barrah and the prophet peace is upon him used to hated that people say he came out from Barrah so he changed her name to Juwairiyyah" Hadith no 2140. Also, there is an incident when someone named his daughter Barrah and the prophet peace is upon him prohibited the use of this name and said "do not commend yourself. Allah knows best who are the people of goodness from among you". So they asked the prophet "what should we call her". The prophet peace is upon him replied "name her Zaynab". This hadeeth is in Sunan Aby Da'ood no 4953 and Al-Albaani said authentic in Sahih Al-Jaami' no 7297. So the prophet peace is upon him illustrated the reason of this being hated and that are two:
1-That people say "he came out from Barrah and he was at Barrah".
2-The tazkiyah (commendation or praise) and Allah knows best who are worthy of being praised from people.
So based on this, it is incumbent to change the name Emaan because the prophet peace is upon him prohibited what carries a tazkiyah (commendation or praise) particularly if it was given to a woman because Emaan is closer to be masculine rather feminine. And the speech is directed at the parents of the children who name their children with such names that carry tazkiyyah (commendation or praise).

Top 20 *Must-Know* Arabic Adverbs of Time
How do you say in Arabic “today“, “tomorrow“, “tonight“, “sometimes“, “now“, “never“, “forever“, etc.?
If you want to be really fluent in Arabic, then there’s no question about it my friend:
You absolutely should learn عن ظهــــــــــر قـــــلــب (by heart) the following “Must-Know” Arabic adverbs of time!
Every فِعْــــــــــل (verb) must occur in a given زَمَــــــــــــــــان (time) and a given مَكَـــــــــــــــــان (place) .
Take the following question for example:
“هل زُرت بُرج الخَلِيــــــــــــــــفَةِ مُـــؤَخَّــــــــــــرًا ؟”
(“Have you visited Burj Al-Khalifa lately?”)
(“Have you visited Burj Al-Khalifa lately?”)
By saying “مُـــؤَخَّــــــــــــرًا” (“recently”) at the end of the sentence, you specify exactly the time frame during which you want to know whether someone has paid a visit to the famous Dubai building.
This diagram shows some Arabic Adverbs of Time (right column) and Space (left column)

Tired of the Constant Fitnah

Shaikh Hammaad al-Ansaaree’s encounter with Maududi
I visited Maududi (Abul-A’laa Al-Maududi) along with some brothers during the course of his stay in Riyadh and he was in the hotel ‘bat-haa’ so we entered upon him and he was praying the ‘Asr prayer, so I began observing his prayer. So when he finished I said to him:
‘This prayer of yours needs reviewing, for you do not raise your hands, nor do you relax (be at ease) and other than that’
So he said: ‘I am Hanafee in Madhhab’.
So I said to him: ‘this is more overwhelming than the first; since it is impermissible for you to say that, and you are above such a statement. We had come to think from your writings that you are a free-thinker[1], but it has become apparent to us that you are a constricted thinker.’ Then I said to him: ‘indeed Imaam Aboo Haneefah is the one that you blindly follow; yet who are the ones that Imaam Aboo Haneefah blindly followed?’
He remained silent, and Allaah’s Aid is sought.

Shaykh Rabee’s closing comments in his book ‘The Methodology of the the Prophets’ regarding Maududi by AbdurRahman.org
At the end of the book authored over 15 years ago, "The methodology of the Prophets in Calling to Allah that is the way of wisdom and intelligence", authored by the noble Shaykh, The Imam, Al-Allaamah Rabee ibn Haadee Al-Madhkalee - and none belittles him nor mocks him except a foolish ignoramous, person of bid'ah, he said:
"Then finally, the points of criticism of Al-Maududi and his likes are so many that this introduction is not the place for them. But in summary, he is one furthest from abiding by the Sovereignty of Allah with regards to his Aqeedah and his Fiqh, and with regards to his stance on the Sunnah of the the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and his stance with regards to the companions of the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and with regards to their enemies the Raafidee Shee'ah.Indeed he and his followers have alliance and friendship with those Raafidees, they support them and they praise their Taaghoot, Al-Khomeini and his students, the Ayaatur-Raafidiyyah.
So noble reader be aware of this and judge the people according to the truth and do not judge the truth according to its people and beware of falling into the abyss of over-exaggerated respect for personalities so that it leads you to reject the truth and to argue with its people.
May Allah guide and grant the ummah to loving the truth and its people. Indeed my Lord hears and responds to supplications"
Will Allah Punish Me for Praying?
Imām Sa’īd b. Al-Musayyib – Allāh have mercy on him – once saw a man praying more than two rak’ah after sunrise, making many bows and prostrations, and so he forbade him. The man said, “O Abu Muhammad, is Allāh going to punish me for praying?” Sa’īd said, “No, but He will punish you for contradicting the Sunnah.”
Al-Bayhaqī, As-Sunan Al-Kubraa 2:466. graded sahīh by Shaykh Al-Albānī. See Irwā Al-Ghalīl 2:236.
Shaykh Al-Albānī writes:
This is one of the superb answers given by Sa’īd b. Al-Musayyib - Allāh have mercy on him. It is a strong weapon against heretics (mubtadi’ah) who recommend many different types of religious innovation in the name of them being dhikr and prayer. They then criticize the followers of the Sunnah for criticizing them, and accuse them of censuring dhikr and prayer, when in fact [Ahl Al-Sunnah] are only criticizing the contravention of the Sunnah in matters such as dhikr and prayer.

Salafi-Ikhwaani, Ikhwaani-Salafi? Salafi Aqidah, Ikhwaani Manhaj? by The Albaani Blog
Salafi-Ikhwaani, Ikhwaani-Salafi? Salafi Aqidah, Ikhwaani Manhaj?by The Albaani Blog |
Questioner: How correct is the saying that so and so is Salafi in aqidah but is on themanhaj of the Ikhwaan [al-Muslimoon]? Is manhaj not part of aqidah? And was this categorization known amongst the Salaf or was there a man who was Salafi in aqidah but not Salafi in manhaj?
Al-Albaani: They are inseparable, Yaa akhi, and it is not possible that he can be anIkhwaani Salafi. But he will be Salafi in some things and Ikhwaani in others, or Ikhwaaniin some and Salafi in others. As for him being a Salafi in accordance with what the Companions of the Messenger عليه السلام were upon for example, then this is something it is impossible to bring together.
The Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon are callers … okay, what do they call to? Do they call to theda’wah of the Salaf as-Saalih? I.e., if we picture an Ikhwaani Salafi, will he be calling to the Salafi da’wah? The answer is no. Thus he is not a Salafi but in one aspect he might be and from another he won’t.
Questioner: [Asking a different question] what’s the difference between …
Shaikh Ubailaan: I called you on the phone…
Al-Albaani: Aah … [i.e., okay]
Shaikh Ubailaan: I asked you ….
Al-Albaani: Yes …
Shaikh Ubailaan: And you said to me, ‘Don’t let those who try to sew together the Salafi manhaj and the Ikhwaani manhaj worry you/be of interest to you.’
Al-Albaani: Yes, by Allaah.
Shaikh Ubailaan: So [in the end such people] never become Salafis or Ikhwaanis!
Al-Albaani: That’s right, Allaahu Akbar.
Questioner: What’s the difference between …

Is Learning Arabic and Speaking it Obligatory on the Student of Knowledge? by 'ilmul'arabiyyah
by Sheikh Albani (May Allah have mercy on him) Questioner: Is it obligatory on the student of legislated knowledge to learn the Arabic language and speak it? Al-Albaani: Learning the Arabic language is an obligatory issue due to what is established with the scholars that: those things which an obligatory action cannot be established without are obligatory themselves. And it is not possible for a student of knowledge to understand the Quraan and the Sunnah except through the Arabic language. As for speaking it, them that is something recommended [mustahab] due to the lack of a legislated proof obligating it. (Fataawaa ash-Shaikh al-Albaani fil-Madinah wal-Imaaraat, 35.) |

Be a Man who Recognises Men According to the Truth and not One who Recognises the Truth According to Men by The Albaani Blog
The Imaam said, after having pointed out Imaam at-Tabari was mistaken in some statements:
“I say this, and I am aware of his knowledge and his excellence and his worth–but the worth of the statements of Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم is more significant to me than any man after him.

The Explaination of Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahaab (rahimahullah) Kitabul Tawheed by 'ilmul'arabiyyah
By: Shaykh Abdur-Rahman Al-Saadi (rahimahullah)
Chapter 4 - pgs. 43-46
The Fear of Shirk
Chapter 4 - pgs. 43-46
The Fear of Shirk
Shaykh Ibn Abdul Wahaab (rahimahullah) says:
Allah said : "Indeed Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, and He forgives other than that as He wills." (Surat An-Nisa :48 & 116 ). And Al-Khalil (Ibrahim ('alayhi salaam)) said, "And prevent me and my descendents from worshipping the idols." (Surat Ibrahim 14:35)
And in the hadith; "The thing I fear most for you is the minor shirk." He ('alayhi salaatu wasalaam) was asked what that was, he replied: "Riya' (show)." *
* Footnote: Al-Mundhiri said, "Recorded by Ahmad with a good chain, also by Ibn Abu Al-Dunya and Al-Bayhaqi in Al-Zuhd, and others." Shaykh Al-Albani (rahimahullah) graded the hadith sahih in Sahih Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib, no.#29 (Riyad edition 1409)
Ibn Masood (rady Allahu 'anhu) reported that Allah's Messenger (alayhi salaatu wasalaam) said: "Whoever dies and he is calling upon others along with Allah, he will enter the Fire." Recorded by Al-Bukhari.
Muslim records from Jabir (rady Allahu 'anhu) that Allah's Messenger (alayhi salaatu wasalaam) said: "Whoever meets Allah without having associated anything with Him will enter paradise, and whoever meets Him having associated something with Him will enter the Fire."
Important Points:
1. The fear of shirk.
2. That riya is a form of shirk.
3. That it is a kind of minor shirk.
4. That it is the most dangerous thing for the righteous.
5. The nearness of Paradise and the Fire.
6. Mentioning their nearness in the same hadith.
7. That he who meets Him, without associating anything with Him, enters Paradise; and he who meets Him, while having associated something with Him enters the Fire, even though he may have been the person most prone to worship.
8. The tremendous importance of this issue, such that al-Khalil (Ibrahim (alayhi salaam)) asked that he and his offspring be protected from worshiping idols.
9. His concern for the condition of most people when he said: "Oh my Lord! Indeed they (the idols) have misguided many of the people." (Surat Ibrahim 14:36).
10. The interpretation of La ilaha illa Allah, as mentioned by Al-Bukhari.
11. The virtue of the one who is free of shirk .
Commentary by Shayhk Al-Saadi:
The Fear of Shirk:
Every instance of shirk in tawheed al-uloohiyah and al-ibadaah negates tawheed. And this shirk is of 2 types: The blatant major shirk, and the subtle minor shirk.
Major Shirk:
It is to make a rival to Allah that is called upon as Allah is called upon, or to fear him, or hope in him, or love him, as Allah is loved, or to render a type of worship to him. This is the shirk which does not leave it practitioner with any tawheed at all, this is the mushrik that Allah has forbidden from Paradise, and his abode is the Fire.
It doesn't matter whether the worship rendered to other than Allah is called worship or tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah), or even if it is given a name other than these. All of that is major shirk, because what is important is the reality of the thing and its implication, not the word or expression used to describe it.
Minor Shirk:
This is every saying or action which leads to shirk, like aggrandizing creature in a way that does not quite reach the level of worship. Like, for example, making an oath by other than Allah, or behaving for show, etc.
Since shirk negates tawheed and necessitates eternal damnation in the Fire, and when it the major type it makes Paradise unlawful, and since bliss cannot be achieved except by escaping from it, then it is necessary for the worshipper to duly fear it, to hurry in escape from it - its every path, means and cause - and to ask Allah to protect him from it was the habit of the prophets, the purified, and the best of creatures.
The worshiper must struggle to increase and strengthen the sincerity in his heart, and this is done by completely devoting oneself to Allah - being subjugated, repentant, fearful, hopeful, obedient, seeking His satisfaction and rewards in all that he does without neglecting this in any matter, open or hidden. True sincerity inherently repels both major and minor shirk, but whenever a type of shirk is present it will weaken one's sincerity.
Allah said "I did" three times
It has been narrated by Abdul-llah bin Al-'Abbas-Allah is pleased with them-that:
When Allah the exalted revealed{Whatever you show within yourself or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it}[Al-Baqarah verse 284] the companions got concerned so the prophet peace is upon him said "say we hear and we believe and we surrounded" and Allah threw the belief in their hearts. Then Allah the exalted revealed{Allah does not
charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of]
what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned
."Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred} Allah said "I
did"{Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before
us} Allah said "I did"{And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are
our protector}[Albaqarah verse 286] Allah said "I did".
Sahih Muslim hadeeth no 126
Indeed, our lord does not deserve to be disobeyed.

Does Talking About Allaah’s Names and Attributes Cause The Common Folk to Doubt? by The Albaani Blog
Questioner: May Allaah reward you with good. Regarding mentioning [Allaah’s] Names and Attributes, some people say that the callers to Allaah must not speak about this issue in front of the common masses and riffraff, because delving into such things leads to placing doubt in them, so how true is this statement? Al-Albaani: We say to these people: then you [find and] speak about something in front of the common folk which is better than that, you speak about something which is better than that. And if talking about that does not impress you then you have to speak about something which does other than that, and if you can’t [find something better than Allaah’s Names and Attributes to talk about]–and you won’t be able to–then you will hear what will not please you and this is the thing that doesn’t please you, [but] what is important is that it pleases your Lord. And this is what has reached us from the Salaf’s knowledge and what we hold as religion before Allaah. And the common folk, as I said to you just now, are upon the natural inborn inclination [that Allaah created man on, al-fitrah], when it is said to them that, ‘[Allaah is] not above, and not below …’ [as the deviant sects say when explaining Allaah’s Names and Attributes] their hearts disapprove of that, but when it is said to them that, ‘Allaah is above all of His creation and there is no created thing above Him,’ [as is the aqidah of the Salaf], then this is what goes with the sound inborn inclination [that Allaah created them on], “... the fitrah of Allaah which He has created [all] people upon.” [Rum 30:30]. Difference Between The Believer And The One Who Turns Away From Eemaan
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:
"Whoever believes in the messengers and obeys them, their enemies display enmity towards him and harm him. Therefore he (the believer) is tested by that which hurts him. If the person doesn't believe in them and he doesn't obeys them, he is punished in the life of this world and in the hereafter. Therefore that which hurts him comes about. And that which hurts him is the greatest of pain and more lasting than the pain that befalls the followers of the Messengers. Therefore its a must that that one goes through hardship/pain whether you believe or turn away from Eemaan. However (the difference is that) the believer experiences pain in the life of this world to start, then he will have a good ending in the life of this world and in the hereafter. As for the one who turned away from Eemaan, he will experience delight to start with then he will proceed on to the everlasting punishment."
